Meet Spoke
Sarah Poke | Principal Speech Pathologist & Director | BSc, MSpPath, MSPA-CPSP
About
Since relocating to Victoria in 2017, Sarah has worked at a major tertiary hospital managing swallowing and communication difficulties across the continuum of care.
With a clinical interest in treatment-related morbidity, Sarah’s specialist area is the maximization of speech, swallowing and jaw function during and after treatment for head and neck cancer. She also has advanced skills in the management of altered airways (tracheostomy and laryngectomy), and aims to partner with primary care teams to support these individuals to live well in the community.
What’s Important to Sarah
Sarah is passionate about providing evidence-based care to achieve best functional outcomes and reduce the impact of a client’s swallowing and/or communication difficulties on their day-to-day life. She prioritises professional development and ongoing learning, and is a firm believer in the importance of clear and consistent education to maximise success.
Sarah believes that early and accurate diagnosis is key to managing swallowing difficulties of all aetiologies. To facilitate this, she is committed to improving access to videofluoroscopic swallowing studies for clients outside the hospital environment.
When not working, you can find Sarah in the great outdoors - walking, running, hiking, gardening (trying!), or just enjoying time with her husband and little pup.
